Berber rug

Berber rugs are handwoven rugs made by the Berber people, who lived in North Africa and the Sahara during the Stone Age. Rugs come in traditional and modern designs, with a variety of knot patterns, colors, and fabric constructions.

Berber is also known as a “loop pile rug.” This is because its fibers consist of short, thick loops woven back and forth, creating a distinctive, dense appearance. Some consider Berber outdated, but it is one of the oldest and most durable types of rug.

Nomadic tribes are constantly on the move and therefore need to be able to get by with only the bare essentials. That is why they designed the Berber rug.

Berber rugs are hand-knotted wool rugs with a particularly high pile, which allows nomads to use them as seating or bedding. Like any classic rug, Berber rugs can also be folded or rolled up, making them easy to transport. Another feature of Berber rugs is their simple design, usually without decorative elements. This highlights their functionality and the authentic natural materials used to make them.

Our Berber rugs are hand-knotted in India from our own sheep’s wool, then undergo strict quality control at our warehouse in Hamburg.
